Well, the modem blew out, so slow on the updates, but the following should give you an idea of what I've been up to
Biking:
About a week ago, Mr. B and I took a trip along 1/6 of the island or so. There and back, that's about 1.3 of the island main road! We hope to do a few more runs, then go for the 28 miler! There's been some interest among my friends to do the same-how exciting!
There are a couple of minor setbacks though.
1) School is back in session. Less free time and more down-to-business
2) I climbed a coconut tree in a bathing suit and got some pretty big scrapes! (on my thighs)
So, it might be a little while 'till I take another practice ride.
Surfing:
I got to go surfing 3 times. Okay, that's not a ton, I admit, but more than usual. And two of those were fairly long sessions.
The first session, was my virgin voyage on my pink board (well, white board with pink and powder blue hearts). Tangent: It's such a fru-fru board, that it deserves a name. Maybe Sammie. I know, I know, that's kind of a masculine name. But it IS also the name of the guy who (unsuccessfully) introduced me to surfing in middle-school. Anyway, that day, we tried two beaches and I caught no waves! I didn't even get out past the break on one beach.
The second session was an all day affair after Isaac. I'm not talking about any crazy tubes, just beautiful, kind beginner waves on the Caribbean (ocean) side of the island. The Caribbean Ocean is generally calm and wave-less. On this particular day, the poor starfishes were beaching, along with sea cucumbers, sea sponges and all matter of things (even a dead sting-ray!). We stayed out there from morning to sunset, taking a delicious break for Indian food at lunch. What a great day.
Chicken Coop:
Not intentionally on our part, our land lord has taken over Mr. B and my project of building a chicken coop. Alright by me, and very kind of him. We hope to have 3 or so chickens by mid-next week. This coop is much larger than we planned for-but it will be good for my landlord if they choose to use it after we leave (they seemed interested in it). I am very excited that I will get to have fresh eggs from my own yard! I have been waiting for this for so long!! And, the potentital to trade. I also love barter.
Okay, you got me, the pics don't quite fit the text--in fact they are the other 30% of what I did this break. Chill out at the beach . . .
