Extra HOT!

34

So, I just recently moved to a new neighborhood. I used to live up in the hills, but now I am closer to the sea. With the change in altitude came a change in heat like no other. I am talking unbearable. A large portion is due to a small air conditioner (AC) unit (squared away in one room), windows without screens, and a cement roof. I cannot afford to blast an AC all day, and I cannot have insect sucking me dry when I leave my windows open. I am between a rock and a hard place! This seems like a personal problem, but I bet dealing with the heat is widely applicable to all you tropical islanders!

Sometimes I have a stroke of genius, but it is not coing to me just yet. This is what I have been doing so far. (past 3 days). Eating frozen fruit juice—not bad at all. Now that I think about it, I have not thought of many solutions to my dilemma, so it’s about time I looked it up. . .

I’m back—the information out there is pretty generic: stay hydrated, stay in the AC, if you have no AC, bum it off of a library or public building (or workplace, I suppose), take a cold shower, go to stream, beach, lake, etc. But also, I found a couple of creative tips here

The top tips? But a bowl of ice or a liter bottle of frozen water in front of a fan to get the effect of an AC. Avoid steam--i.e. run hot showers, the dishwasher, or the laundry after the sun goes down.

I will continue my search later, but now it is time for me to take advantage of the AC at my workplace.

The pic? It is from a rainforest hike to the local water cistern/shed. Any hike with water is my kind of hike--and sure to keep you cool! And if you're wondering about the artistic touch, it' my mac that's the creative genius. Or more specifically, the poor internet connection is messing up my images as they upload. As long as they look artistic, I think I'll let it slide. . . (or until I find a solution).

Till then,
