Because of the interesting things you can find in your every day island adventures, you can end up with a collection of mementos. That, in combination with crafting, will allow you to take home some great wearable souvenirs.
I started with the classic--sea glass. Some find it fascinating, some find it irresistible. The material is old glass that was likely tossed aboard ships or sank with them ages ago. The dark blue pieces are hard to come by here, and they say it is from old penicillin bottles. As for the average piece, the thicker it is, the older it is, is what I am told. There is also smoothed pottery fragments in the sea, and that is said to be from ballast (weights on a ship). A little sea glass, a few beads, BAM!
The others are an assortment. The feather is an item found during Carnival. The Ting bottle cap is from a local drink here (the orange one is not local), and the sea fans.
The sea fans are occupying my craft mind as the next IT item. Sea fans are some sort of coral-type organism that lives, well--in the sea. These wash up on certain beaches and were just another object until inspiration hit! Of course, earrings!
As you may have noticed, these earrings have a bit more to them. You see, my ears are not pierced, so a usual ear piece would not do. I came across this design for the ear cuff, and was sold on the idea. I admit, these are a little more cumbersome than your average earring--but I do think it adds character!
