Nothing says holidays like holiday cookies. This year, there seems to be a host of interesting cookie shapes--like ninjabread men and gingerbread yoga cookies. I happened upon one of those pictures, and couldn't help but to want to make my own. Not living in the States, being too cheap, and too proud of my DIY skills, I made my own. Keep in mind the ones below were the first several cookies, so the frosting's a bit shoddy. The rest turned out better, I swear ;)
For those who are curious, I doodle my own ginger bread shapes and made cutouts on some stiff plastic (cover from a notebook), then I traced these patterns onto the rolled out dough using a knife. It was very tedious, and I probably won't find occasion to do it again. But, I did just start yoga and was even enjoying it for the first time in my life, so I thought I'd give the instructor a little treat :D. Buying the cookie cutters is much simpler if you are plotting to make these yourself.
And since that was such a tedious project, the rest of my acquaintances got these! Which were equally as fun and delicious. These are sugar cookies with melted chocolate designs. Again, the first few (on the very right of the image) were a little shaky, but they improved in no time.
I can't even begin to fathom all the crazy cookies that are being baked this year. A friend baked 26 dozen cookies this year. I can't even imagine!
