Milk goes bad quick on this island. Since milk is all imported, the fresh stuff should only be purchased immediately after import, and consumed ASAP. Not being a big milk-drinker, I defaulted to these boxes of milk, that quite frankly creep me out a bit. They're great for baking--but for cereal, or straight out of the glass? I'll leave that to your discretion.
Also, another sad thing is there is no recycling on this island!! The best I can do is compost--but everything else goes into a dump, to sit forever. So this is a perfect project for these conditions.
It's a wallet made from a 'box milk' carton. You could also use the soy milk cartons or the boxed chicken stock cartons, I assume. They are nice because they have a little bit of lining, making it look a little more 'put-together' than just card board.
This up-cycled wallet holds a few coins, bills and credit cards. It is for the beach or bar when you only want a few things on you.
The general method behind making it is this:
1. Cut the top and bottom of the box/carton
2. Line up against a folded bill or credit card, and fold the box, leaving a little extra wiggle-room
3. Fold the remainder of the box over as well (lid)
4. Unfold the 2 folds you just made, and cut off the excess cardboard to form a lid
5. Staple the middle of the wallet together
6. Sew a button to the lid, and some spare yarn to the front of the wallet to form a closure.
